项目摘要

本研究が目指したテーマは、19世紀に焦点をあて、近代フランスで展開した国内市場統合化の進行と、その基盤となった流通体系の形成過程を史的に検討することである。その際に小売市場(いちば)・店舗、また鉄道等の流通、商業関連の数量データの発掘、収集を基礎作業の主軸として、これらデータの計量的解析も試みながら、かかるテーマを解明すべく総合的考察を進めた。成果の一部は市場史研究会・第30回大会で報告した。研究の第二年度目にあたる本年度は、国内諸大学での史資料検索を継続しながら、昨年度中に収集したデータの一層の拡充作業にも努め、またコンピュータへの入力、解析作業を本格化させた。特にパリ市内の食品小売店関連史料のデータ・ベース化、またパリ・地方都市に誕生・展開した百貨店のネットワーク化に関する資料の検討に主眼をおいた。また香港中文大学を訪問し、同大学スタッフからコメントも得て、本研究がもつ国際比較史的視点(アジアのケースとの比較等)を拡充させた。このような検討作業から次の点が具体的ケースにより解明された。1. 19世紀中葉に拡張された鉄道網の確立は、速度、運賃、ネットワーク充実度、商業チャンス拡張の面でフランス国内の流通体系を確かに一新させるものであった。ただし、従来型の交通手段である道路網、水運網との関係は、「競合」のみならず、「補完」、「タイ・アップ」の関係も認められ、この二つの要素を前提にして、当期の新流通体系をより包括的に検討していく視角が明らかになった。2. 上記と同時期に新たに展開した百貨店は、服飾店を出自とするケースが多かったが、その出身業種ごとにネットワーク化のパターンに差異が認められた。また、パリに本店を置く大手とは別の、独立系の地方百貨店の特徴も浮き彫りになった。
