非建築材特にコンテナや車両を用いた建築物(以下コンテナ建築とする)の実態について、事例調査により明らかになったのは以下のことである。1) 現行法規ではコンテナ建築を建設するには仮設建築物として認められたもの以外、多くの制約がある。2) コンテナ建築の使用者による評価は、コスト、工期、建設や撤去の容易さなどの面で優れているが、一方で居住性に問題があるという結果となっている。さらに居住性を向上させるために加工を施すことがコスト高を招くなど、本来のメリットが失われていくことも明らかとなっている。これをふまえ、コンテナ建築の利用可能性について分析・考察をおこなった。1) 通常の建築物と比較した場合、コンテナの持つ利点(1)高気密 (2)コンパクト (3)リサイクル (4)仮設性(5)初期コスト小 (6)工場生産 (7)規格化 (8)移動性2) 通常の建築物と比較した場合、コンテナの持つ欠点(1)居住性 (2)法的規制 (3)加工コスト大3) コンテナ建築利用の方向性利用の方向性として、(1)恒久的、(2)仮設的(平常時)、(3)仮設的(非常時)が考えられるが、特にコンテナ建築では(2)および(3)での利用がその特性を生かせると考えられる。具体的には、住宅系 :(1)(2)部屋増築、物置等 (3)応急的住宅・倉庫商業系 :(1)貸スペース (2)店舗、貸スペース、屋台 (3)応急的店舗・事務所農業・畜産系:(1)(2)倉庫、動物檻、温室等医療系 :(3)応急的診療所・救護所等公安系 :(2)(3)派出所、検問所、拘留施設等などが有効な利用法として挙げられるであろう。
