1. 馬庭念流樋口家(群馬県多野郡吉井町馬庭80番地)所蔵文書のうち「起請文」、「門弟帳」、「書簡」の撮影および一部解読を行い本研究の基礎資料とした。また樋口家文書1,639点の検索データベースを作成した。(Microsoft Excel。)その結果、和年号、文書名、発信者、受取人等から特定文書を抽出できるようになった。2. 上野国内各村における馬庭念流門人の広がりをみるために『群馬県立文書館資料所在目録』,『新田文庫』(群馬大学図書館蔵),赤堀本間家文書(群馬県立歴史博物館蔵)のなかに馬庭念流に関する文書と門人の分布をみた。今年度,特に上野国東部地域(新田郡平塚村田部井源兵衛道場.赤堀市場村本間仙五郎道場)の馬庭念流門人分布について調査した。田部井源兵衛道場の門人階層は(1)新田岩松家由緒の町人・百姓(2)利根川の船問屋(3)名主(4)家塾指導者(5)新田岩松家家来のものであった。本間仙五郎道場の門人は百姓や町人が多かった。(河岸)3. 14世樋口十郎兵衛定〓(1703〜1796)が新田岩松家と親しかった(新田家文書.樋口家文書)理由は、「高家衆並」の地位にあった新田岩松家を政治的後ろ盾とし流名を高める契機としたかったからであると考えられる。4. 馬庭念流の免許システムはいわゆる「取立制」とは違う、免許を得た本間、四分一、田部井などが(1)独自に門人を得て指導していたこと。(2)発行した文書に樋口家の伝系が無記載であり、独自に免許を発行できたこと。(免許授与権の完全付与)(3)樋口家宗家が行った奉額に対する高弟の集金システムが確立していたこと以外、高弟と宗家との金銭の授受が確認されないこと、等が特徴的である。5. 今研究で収集した馬庭念流門人データベースによれば、馬庭念流は流派経営の手法として、上野国で経済的、政治的に余裕のある門人層を支えとし、榛名御師を流派広告の伝達媒介としたことなどが判明した。
