1、 蛇聟入・苧環型の昔話および伝説の資料収集:本年度は『日本伝説大系』『日本昔話大成』に加えて『日本昔話通観』に基づき、鳥取県・宮城県・大分県・鹿児島県・岩手県・福岡県・福井県・石川県の各県立図書館および市町村立図書館において資料調査を行った。伝説が伝承されている地域については、当該地域の市町村誌および関係地図等を市町村役場、教育委員会において購入した。結果、上記の『日本伝説大系』『日本昔話大成』『日本昔話通観』において簡略化されて上げられている事例を全文確認し、さらにそれらを上回る数の文献を得ることが出来た。また昔話として挙げられている事例のいくつかが、実際は伝説であることも確認出来た。更に今年度は本説話の古典資料および海外の類似説話も収集した。2、 伝説の現地調査:本伝説で語られる場所を具体的に地図上において確認するため、現地における資料調査および聞き取り調査を行った。現地調査を行い伝承される場所の確認が出来たのは、大分県佐賀関町・臼杵市・津久見市・大野町・緒方町、福岡県二丈町、岩手県雫石町・宮城県本吉町・中田町・志津川町、鹿児島県宇検村・大和村・喜界町、福井県今庄町・永平寺町。伝承地の明治期の地籍図撮影をし、フィルムスキャナーで判読加工作業が出来たのは、鳥取県用瀬町大字金屋(明治27年)・日南町大字多里・河原町大字湯谷・牛戸(明治24年)である。なお撮影された地籍図の保存にはMOドライブを使用した。3、 データベースの作成:前年度および今年度の収集資料のデータベースを作成した。昔話については「蛇の棲家/娘の家/解決/儀礼/話型/来訪男/教訓」、伝説については「蛇の棲家/所在地/記念物/娘の家/所在地/記念物/解決/儀礼/来訪男」の項目を立てて分類し、一覧表および分布図を作成した。
