(1) 絵画の意味内容のデータ表現方法の研究前年度は,学芸員の作成した資料を元に,絵画の背景知識や絵画が表現しようとしている意味内容を意味ネットワークを用いてデータベース化した.本年度は,その使用経験を元に,a)最も基本的な意味を持つ基本ノードの概念を導入し,b)下位ノードは上位ノードから意味を継承可能とし,c)ノードとノードの関連を示すリンクに重みの概念を導入することによって,絵画の意味データベースを改善した.これによって,意味検索において重要な作品がより検索されやすくなった.また,将来の課題として,従来人手で作成していた意味データの獲得を自動化するために.学芸員が既に作成している解説文から意味ネットワークを自動生成する方法の研究にも着手しシステムを試作した.これは.美術館の膨大な作品の意味データを既存の解説文から生成し,かつ意味データの一貫性を保つことを目標としている.(2) 絵画の意味内容の可視化方法の研究a) 絵画の意味内容を利用した内容検索機能上記の意味データを利用して,利用者が指定した作品間の意味的な関連を表示したり,同様な意味を持つ他の作品を検索可能とした.これによって,作品の客観的な属性だけでなく,意味を使って検索することが可能となった.b) 利用者の興味を反映した自動展示機能上記の機能を発展させ,仮想美術館中をウォークスルーする利用者の行動からの推定や,利用者の明示的な指示により,利用者が興味を持つ作品を自動的に展示する機能を作成した.これにより,利用者は最初は意識していなかった自分の興味を意識化し,作品鑑賞をより深めることができる.(3) 仮想美術館のインターネット対応の研究我々は,上記の機能を持つ仮想美術館ArtFinderをJava言語で開発することにより,Webを用いてインターネット経由で使用可能なシステム構成とした.また.ArtFinder用のキャッシュサーバを開発することによってネットワークトラフィックを軽減した.(4) 試作システムの評価本システムを美術館学芸員に使用してもらい評価を行なった.表示上の問題はもいくつかあったが,内容検索機能や自動展示機能に関しては良好な評価を得た.
