はじめに、大阪府下の従業員100人以上500人未満の事業所に郵送にて事前調査を行った。3600社中1020社の返信があり、海外出張を予定している従業員の有無については110社で海外への出張があるとの回答を得た。この110社中協力の得られる37社200余人を対象に、従業員自身の健康状態などに関する郵送による調査を実施した。37社の内訳は、従業員数100人未満が3社、100人以上200人未満が13社、200人以上300人未満が8社、300人以上が9社、不明4社、業種はサービス業が9社、製造業が19社、卸売・小売が9社である。最終的に26通のアンケート返送があった。返送数が少なかったため、従来の研究目的は達することができなかったが、以下のことがわかった。出張のパターンとしては、短期出張を繰り返す形と、長期出張にはじめていくというパターンがあり、短期出張を繰り返すものが多いため出張健診を受けるものも少く、出張中に健康について相談できる人も半数以上の者がいないと答えており、充分な保健指導がなされていない様子が伺える。相談できる人がいると答えた人の場合、相談者は看護婦、医師、次いで保健婦となっている。また、現地で部下を持つ予定のあるものが半数近くいるにもかかわらず、現地の言語に精通しているものは少ない等の結果が得られた。以上のことより、研究の現段階では、出張期間の長短にかかわらず、保健指導が必要であること、出張中に相談できる人・場所の確保・インフォメーションが必要であることが示唆された。なお、出張中、帰国後については、協力者が少ないことから実施することができなかった。
