本研究の目的は、出産後の母親が育児に適応する過程において育児不安がどのように形成されるかを明らかにし、産褥期の育児援助法を確立することである。平成13年度の計画では、画接調査の実施により、育児の適応過程を記述的に分析することであった。その結果、育児への適応パターンとして、特徴的な4つのパターン抽出した:1)パターンAは退院後から3週間の間に、「構える」「しきり直す」「力が抜ける」「手抜きがわかる」という段階を踏む特徴があった;2)パターンBは育児体験により、比較的早い段階から子どもの行動の意味の判別は可能で、自分流を確立していた;3)パターンCは育児体験から子どもの行動に的確な判断を行うことができた。パターンBとの違いとして、関心が子どもより自己へと向いていたため、ストレスがあり、その回避手段として育児を実母に依存をしていた:4)パターンDは育児体験により、自分もできると思っていたが、子どもの行動が大人しく、自分の子は大人しいのが個性であり、それで良いのだと自分流で納得した。以上の結果から、家庭におげる育児への適応が円滑に進む方法として1)育児児体験により、母親は子どもの行動の判別が可能であった。したがって、出産育児を人生設計の中に考えている女性やカップルに対し、育児体験を具体的・継続的に経験できるような機会を作る。2)育児の適応段階によっては混乱状態に陥ることがある。したがって、褥婦やカップルに対し、心理的な育児負担を避けるため、育児への適応パターンについて具体的な情報提供をする必要がある。また、子どもの行動に関する知識や情報を具体的に提供する必要がある。3)今回の研究では、育児の援助者として、多くの場合実母が上げられたが、援助者が干渉し過ぎることが母親を不安と混乱に追い込むことも考えられる。故に、母親にとって適切な援助者となるため、教育的支援や情報提供を行う必要がある。
