项目摘要

戦前期に文部省によって実施された中等学校家事科教員検定試験(「文検家事」)の受験者の実態を解明することが本研究の目的である。とくに「文検家事」男子合格者谷忠一に焦点をあて、谷家(三重県一志郡白山町)に保存されていた資料(家政書、家事教科書、日記)と遺族から聞き取り調査をもとに、谷の経歴、「文検家事」受験の動機、学習内容、合格後の活動について明らかにした。加えて、「文検家事」に関する統計資料、全試験問題を収集し、その内容についても分析した。結果を以下に示す。(1)「文検家事」男性出願者・合格者は,「文検」のほぼ全期間を通じて存在した。これに対し,「文検裁縫」は数年間しか男性の出願がなく,合格者は皆無であった。こうした差異は,検定委員の近藤が長期にわたり理科の検定委員も兼ねていた点,理科や生理及衛生科と内容の重複がみられた点,技能の比重がやや低い点において「文検裁縫」よりも男性が出願し易い条件を有していたことから生じたと考えられる。(2)谷の受験動機は,家事科教員になるためではなく,理科担当教員としての自己研修と複数学科目の取得を通して地位向上を目指すことであった。(3)男性合格者にとって,筆記試験の内容は比較的容易に修得できたが,実地試験における調理や洗濯の技能修得は困難であった。(4)谷は,家事科の授業は担当しなかったものの,著作の執筆,家庭寮訓練の指導,地域の女性向け講習会の講師などの活動により,勤務校および地域の家事教育に積極的に係わった。加えて受験指導者としても活動した。これらの活動を通じて,谷は,受験勉強や受験指導で修得した最新の知識や技能を広め,生活改善につながる家事教育を推進しようとした。
