项目摘要

江戸から東京における400年間の火災事例、特に、江戸時代(1603〜1868)の615件について火災被害を地図上に可視化し、被害の傾向を明らかにする。そのため現在の場所の比較可能で、江戸の町としての変化が少ない明治12年東京全図を基盤図とした。この地図をGISソフトであるマップインフォを用いてコンピュータ上に取り込み約4800ブロックに区分した街区をポリゴンデータとしてそれに対応する町丁名も入力した。これを基に、江戸時代に発生した火災の中で町名変更などの変化がなく出火場所が特定できる火災について位置を入力した。その分布をみると出火点が町人地ではほぼ一様に分布していることがわかる。さらに、幕府として防火対策の目的である江戸城の火災被害についてまとめてみると、36件の火災があった。これを地図上にプロットした結果、明暦大火(1657年)以降市街地火災から江戸城が被害を受けることがほとんどなくなっていることがわかった。また、同様に関東大震災について、震災予防調査会中村清二作成の延焼動態図9葉を取り込み、9月1日13時から9月3日7時までの時間別延焼等時線をポリゴンデータとして入力、同調査会井上一之が作成した死者分布と重ね、延焼拡大の状況を風速と風向もあわせてアニメーション化した。これらの結果を、書籍「考証江戸の火災は被害が少なかったのか」として出版し、江戸では火災で常に死者が発生していたという誤解や当時の火災被害と防火対策の状況を一般市民に明らかにすることができた。
