身体障害者用駐車スペースの適正幅を求めるための乗降実験車いす使用者4名(一人は自力歩行可能)、松葉杖使用者1名、軽い歩行障害者3名、妊産婦2名を対象に乗降実験を行った結果、車いす使用者用に3.25mの幅を、松葉杖使用者用には全開できることを考慮して3mの幅を、軽度の障害者用(軽い歩行障害者や妊婦)には2.75mの幅を確保すれば、問題なく乗降できることが明らかになった。身体障害者用駐車施設に関するアンケート調査結果パーキングパーミット制度が始まって駐車しやすくなったかという問いに対して、『駐車しやすくなった』、『少し駐車しやすくなった』と回答した割合はそれぞれ17%と23%で、合わせても40%である。一方、『ほとんど変わらない』、『かえって駐車しにくくなった』と回答した割合はそれぞれ20%と40%で、駐車環境の改善に繋がっていないことがわかる。『かえって駐車しにくくなった』と回答した14人のうち13人は、その理由として『軽い歩行障害を持つ入や妊産婦等の利用証を持った人が増えたため』を挙げている。この結果は、軽度の障害者が重度の障害者の駐車を阻害しているという実態調査の結果を裏づけるものである。身体障害者用駐車施設管理システムの構築入庫・出庫を超音波センサーで感知し、入庫した車に対してICタグを用いて駐車資格を判定するシステムを構築した。ドライバーまたは同乗者は車から降りて、ICタグを貼付したカードをアンテナにかざすことによって駐車資格の判定が行われる。カードをかざさない場合あるいは有効期限が切れている場合には、赤のライトが点滅すると同時に警告音が鳴り、資格のない人の駐車を牽制する。
