The ethological analysis of stomatognathic function with 24 hours EMG of masticatory muscles

本研究的目的是从行为学角度评价和比较颞下颌关节紊乱病患者（TMD组）和正常人（N组）的肌肉活动。受试者为22名正常人和11名TM障碍者。使用双极AgAgCl表面电极从咬肌获得肌电图（EMG），并在便携式盒式磁带录音机上记录24小时。同时记录受试者的行为和膳食。在个人计算机上用我们的分析程序对记录的肌电信号进行积分、A-D转换和分析。24小时数据分为3个阶段，即：例如，吃饭时间、睡觉时间和其他时间。TMD组和N组的肌肉活动模式相似。而在进餐时间，TMD组的咬肌活动有小于N组的趋势。在睡眠时，TMD组的肌肉活动度有大于N组的趋势。这些结果表明，建立一个新的行为学诊断系统的TM疾病，并发现一些潜在的病人TM疾病的早期阶段的可能性。

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare ethologically the muscle activity between temporomandibular (TM) disorder subjects (TMD group) and normal subjects (N group). The subjects were 22 normal persons and 11 TM disorder persons. Electromyogram (EMG) was obtained from masseter muscle using bipolar AgAgCl surface electrodes and recorded on a portable cassette tape recorder for 24 hours. The behavior and meal menu of subjects were also recorded. The EMG recording was integrated, A-D converted and analyzed with our original analyzing programs on a personal computer. The 24 hours data was divided into 3 phases, i. e., meal time, sleeping time and the other time. TMD group and N group showed similar muscle activity patterns. However, in the meal time, the masseter muscle activity of the TMD group tended to be less than that of N group. On the other hand, in the sleeping time, the muscle activity of TMD group tended to be larger than that of N group. These results suggest a possibility to establish a new ethological diagnostic system of TM disorders and to find some potential patients with TM disorders in its early stages.
