平成6年2-3月、5月、7〜8月と数次にわたる現地調査を実施した。調査対象地は島根県隠岐郡西ノ島町浦郷地区を中心に、必要に応じて西郷町、五箇村、島前中ノ島の海士町も併せて調査対象とした。調査手法は徹底した「聴き取り、面接法」をとり、部落のキ-・パースンから情報収集し、それらを基礎に分析枠組を構想した。これまでおこなった調査研究の内容は(1)隠岐諸島の社会史研究、(2)各研究分担者の研究領域に従い、文化人類学的、社会学的、文化史的、宗教社会学的な研究をおしすすめてきた。具体的には、(1)隠岐の近代化の進行の中で、マスコミ情報の与えてきた影響とともに近代以降の第三次産業の発展、とりわけ観光産業の振興は隠岐の発展と産業化に影響を与えてきたが、とくに若者人口の流出(向都現象)に典型的にみられる人口流出の増加とともに観光客の流入増などが全体としての人的交流の著るしい増加を結果した。とくに観光地化にともなう隠岐社会の変動の分析をおこなった。(2)隠岐の過疎化対策としての若者宿の新築と地域振興に及ぼす効果の測定、町起こし運動としての隠岐全国トライアル大会」の町の活性化に及ぼした影響と効果分析。(3)隠岐諸島の種々の祭札や宗教的行事の社会的機能を宗教社会学的、文化人類学的な観点から明らかにすること。(4)町村合併にともなう部落組織の変容、及び便益の配分をめぐる政治的勢力関係の分析、(5)明治維新時の文化変動ともいうべき宗教改革(廃仏毀釈)の影響、以上のような問題意識にもとづき研究をすすめてきた。そして研究成果の一部として、越智、小坂、斗鬼、阿南の共著として「隠岐諸島の社会変動に及ぼした諸要因-隠岐郡西ノ島町の調査研究ノートから-」を著わした。この論文は江戸川大学紀要「情報と社会」NO.5.1995.(2月20発行)に発表された。(13-35頁。)
