Personal computer based video database system of speech articulation as an aid for Japanese pronounciation learning

Purpose of the present study is to provide learning/teaching video materials for the foreign learners of Japanese pronounciation. Following video data were collected for Japanese, Korean and Chinese.1.Facial image of the vowel and consonant pronounciation.2.Ultrasonic tomograph of the tongue in vowel production.3.Fiberscopic view of the larynx in consonant production.These data were stored on the optical video disc and/or on the personal computer as digital video data. A program system was developed which retrieve and display desired data on the computer screen throuhgh simple, easy operation. At the same time, the video image of the learner's pronounciation can be input and displayd in real time and can be compared with pre-stored data on the computer screen. The system is developed based on the common multimedia functions of the Windows system (Microsoft) on the personal computer.
