交付申請書に記した研究計画にしたがって、本研究は、次の三つの作業を進めることで実施された。1 データの収集日本の古代中世絵画、西洋の装飾写本に関しては、作例、文献ともに、かなりのデータが収集できた。しかし、これは、「包括的」というにはほど遠い。2 先行研究の批判まず、WickhoffやWeirzmannによる装飾写本研究を検討した。この両者には、同時代の文化思潮(印象派絵画や映画技法)の影響がつよい。これを修正しながら、新しいモデルを構想するには、従来の美術史学における、異時同図法による作品の受容史を、さらに批判的に検証していく必要があるだろう。3 作例の分類と、意味作用の機能的分析諸作例の機能的意味作用を分析した結果、「視線巡覧型」と「多重露出型」という二つの理想型モデルが得られた。前者の例は、絵巻物や大画面、フリーズに多く見られ、後者は、枠のなかの小画面や礼拝像によく見られる。なお、二三の重要作例については、とくに詳細な分析を行なった(業績参照)。異時同図法を比較芸術学的な観点から分析するという当初の目的は、必ずしも十分に達成されたとはいいがたい。今後、とくにデータ(文献・作例)をさらに収集したうえで、成果をまとめて刊行することにしたい。
