地方大学の大学生を対象とする意識調査(平成4年度科研費調査および既に実施されていた意識調査の二次分析)から、特に東北地方の地方都市や町村などに実家のある対象者について分析を行なって、次のような知見を得た。(1)「大学卒業後」(独身時代)の希望居住地と「結婚後」の希望居住地が区別され、また「移動(=転勤)」型の生活と「定住型」の生活も、結婚前と後とで区別されており、いわばライフステージに応じた居住パターンが見られる。(2)「実家のある地域」か「その近くの地域」に住みたいと希望する割合は、「結婚前」では2割弱にすぎないが「結婚後」では3割強となり、「地方定住」志向が見られる。(3)居住志向パターンに影響するのは、性別・実家所在地などの属性要因とライフスタイル要因で、ライフスタイル要因では消費主義志向(「東京・仙台などに買い物にゆく」「テレビ局数に不満」「目立ちたい」)に大都市指向が強い。(4)地方定住パターンには、地域の「自然」「歴史」などの風土への関心が強く、地方都市の都市的発展は必ずしも重視していない。上に取り上げた大学生における「地方定住志向」の「地方」は、県庁所在地クラスの地方中枢都市が想定されており、町村などは含まれていない。この点では、大学生層以外の高校生、地方中枢都市居住者以外の青年層に対する調査が必要であり、そうした観点から沢内村の集落を対象とする調査を行なった。その調査からの一つの知見は、現在他出中の人に対しても、都市における職業からの退職後には帰村ないしはJターンが期待されており、現時点での他出が固定されたものではなく、大学生層における知見と同じく、ライフステージ別の居住志向パターンを想定する必要があるということである。これらの点を含めてさらに分析するとともに、多様な青年層を調査する必要がある。
