项目摘要

本研究の目的は、わが国における外国人労働者に関する文献を調査し、また同じ研究に従事している異なる分野の研究者たちのネットワークの拡大を促進することにあった。この目的のために、研究代表者のイーズはとくに諸外国との比較研究の視点から、分担者の山下は東南アジアからの移民の視点から、山崎は移民の健康と福祉の視点から調査を行った。収集した資料は整理し、コンピュータに入力した。その結果、本研究の主要な成果は、次の4つのコンピュータ・データベースを作成したことに具現されている。(1)関係のある研究者のリストを作り、100人あまりの研究者に彼らの研究の内容や出版物等に関するアンケートを行った。(2)日本とほかの先進国における外国人労働者に関する文献目録(約400点)を作成した。(3)1990年から1993年の間に日本の主要な新聞に掲載された外国人労働者に関する記事を調査し、500ぐらいの記事をデータベース化した。(4)英文の出版物を丹念に調べ、日本とアメリカの労働力の移入と関連した都市問題の資料を収集した。このデータベースにはアメリカに関して900以上、日本に関して400以上の記事の要約と原文が含まれている。基礎的なデータを収集し、研究者のネットワークを作り上げたという点で、本研究はこの問題に関する将来の研究と出版のための基礎を築いたと言えよう。これからの計画としては、(1)我々のデータベースを何らかの形でほかの研究者にも利用できるようなものにする、(2)関連学会において日本の外国人に関する最近の研究についてシンポジウム等を主催する、(3)本研究の結果を含めて、日本、ヨーロッパとアメリカの都市問題を比較する短いモノグラフを出版する、などといったことが考えられる。
