研究実施計画にもとづき、地域的事例を取り上げながら、17-18世紀における織物生産と輸出市場との関係の推移、およびその中に占めるフランス革命の意義を明らかにしようとした。まずブルターニュおよびバ=メーヌにおける輸出向けリンネル生産の動態を克明に追跡した結果、両地域への上質リンネル織製造の導入が17世紀中葉におけるフランス工業の全般的危機への対応策の一つとして行われたことを突き止めるとともに、この部門の生産のピークが18世紀中葉にあり、世紀後半には停滞ないし収縮が顕著となること、またフランス革命期における生産と輸出の収縮は劇的ではあったが、18世紀中葉以来のリンネル工業の長期衰退傾向の加速化としてこれをとらえるべきこと、を従来の諸研究以上に明確にすることができた。つぎに、輸出向け毛織物生産を代表するものとして、ラングドック地方における上質ラシャ生産を取り上げ、その推移を17世紀末から19世紀初頭までにわたって再検討した。その結果、同工業においても18世紀中葉が繁栄のピークであり、以後大革命前夜にかけて停滞ないし収縮が現れること、その原因は、輸出品たるラシャの品質低下と輸出先レヴァント=トルコ市場における需要の減退および国際競争の激化に求められるべきこと、が明らかになった。さらに、その際、特に主産地である都市カルカッソンヌにおいて1780年代前半に生産の急落が生じた事実を突き止め、その原因について需要、供給の両面から考察を試みた。また、当工業の発展過程に占めるフランス革命と戦争の影響について再検討を加えた結果、ラシャ工業においてはレヴァント市場の収縮の後にも、新製品の開発や紡毛工程の機械化など生産の回復と市場拡大への努力が顕著に認められ、この時点でラングドック毛織物工業の衰退について語ることは時期尚早であるとの結論が得られた。

A case study of the development of the textile industry in the 17th and 18th centuries illustrates the significance of the textile revolution. In the mid-17th century, the introduction of high-quality industrial production into the country began. In the mid-18th century, the introduction of high-quality industrial production began. In the second half of the century, the trend of stagnation and contraction in production and output during the revolutionary period accelerated since the middle of the 18th century. From the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 19th century, the quality of wool fabric production has been reviewed. As a result, the same industry developed in the middle of the 18th century, and later on, on the eve of the Great Revolution, there was stagnation and contraction, and the reasons for the decline in the quality of exports and the decline in the demand for exports and the intensification of international competition. In the first half of the 1780s, the rapid decline of production occurred, and the reasons for it were examined. The development of new products, mechanization of wool spinning engineering, recovery of production and market expansion efforts have been made to recognize the decline of wool fabric industry.
