(1)資料収集・整理海軍の最も基礎的な資料である海軍省年報に関して、マイクロフィルム版を利用して日露戦争以前についてのデータの整理・解析をおこなった。また、近年刊行された陸海軍工廠関係者による回顧録などの史資料について国会図書館等で収集をおこなうとともに、呉市史や広島県史の編纂関係者から海軍工廠に関する史資料の動向について教示を得た。さらに、防衛庁防衛研究所図書館と国立公文書館においては、海軍工廠の組織や制度に関する史資料の収集とその検討をおこなった。(2)史資料とデータ分析海軍工廠の組織や制度については明治前半期の史資料が比較的富豊であることが確認されたが、関係者の証言や回顧録は逆に大正期以降に関するものが多く、両者を比較対照するという点で問題が残った。労働市場を中心とした外部環境に関する史資料は乏しく、争議等のように労働運動の表面に現れた事実しか判明せず、しかもそれについては新聞記事等に依拠するしかないという難点がある。(3)中間報告の作成とその留意点現在、内部組織の展開と外部(とくに労働市場)との関係に焦点をあてて海軍工廠の展開を考察した論考を準備しているが、次のような点が懸案となっている。(1)時期区分を再検討、とくに考察の開始時期の問題、(2)外部との関係という点で労働市場に着目するのは正しいが、労働者のみに限定するのではなく、技術者や下級管理者にも視野を広げる必要があること、などである。
