Scientific network "Contemporary history of Turkey"

The scientific network organizes the so far weak research on the contemporary history of Turkey in German-speaking countries as well as in near neighbouring countries. Eight researchers from different disciplines from Germany and six from abroad are involved. The aim of the network is to strengthen and coordinate contemporary historical research on Turkey, to improve the discourse among the participating disciplines, to discuss theoretical and methodological questions, and to place Turkey's contemporary history in the context of global contemporary historical developments. In addition, it is to strengthen Duisburg-Essen University by networking with the institutions existing there that relate to Turkey. Three topic-specific workshops are intended to intensify cooperation. The results will be published in a three-volume series. In addition, a website and online discussion forums are planned. It is intended that the network will continue beyond the funding period.
