1.反対咬合症の咀嚼障害の評価について反対咬合症の咀嚼能力の治療に伴う改善度とその後の長期的変化様相について定量的かつ縦断的に評価した。被験者は、顎矯正外科治療を受け、術後3年以上経過した女性・成人骨格型反対咬合症31例である。咀嚼能力の定量的評価方法としてATP吸光度法を用いた。結果は次の通りであった。1)治療前の反対咬合症の平均咀嚼能力は、正常咬合者のそれよりも約40%劣っていた。2)平均咀嚼能力は、術後長期経過するにつれて次第に向上していたものの、正常咬合者に比べて有意に低い値にとどまっていた。3)治療前に高い咀嚼能力を示していたものは術後に低下する傾向があり、また逆に低いものでは総じて向上しており、全体として正常咬合者の下限領域付近に向かって収束する傾向を示していた。2.反対咬合症の治療後におけるガム咀嚼訓練の効果について顎矯正外科治療後の咀嚼能力の向上を図ることを目的に、ガム咀嚼訓練を施し、その効果を定量的に評価した。研究対象者は、顎矯正外科治療を適用した女性・骨格型反対咬合症36例(訓練群:20例、対照群:16例)である。咀嚼訓練は動的治療直後から1年半までの間に3カ月間行い、咀嚼能力の変化をATP吸光度法を用いて評価した。結果は次の通りであった。1)訓練群、対照群ともに、術後(ガム咀嚼訓練前)の咀嚼能力は初診時と比較して有意差が認められなかった。2)訓練後の咀嚼能力は、訓練前と比べて有意に向上していた。3)訓練群の訓練後の咀嚼能力は、対照群の術後のそれよりも有意に高い値を示した。
