エイズに関する先行研究文献内容の整理・分析作業を行い、エイズという疾病に対する基礎知識やエイズ患者に対する社会的意識レベルを測定するための実態調査票(小学校低学年児童用、小学校中・高学年児童用、中学生用、高校生用及び大学生用)で作成し、調査を行った。調査票の回収数は、小学校1〜2年生210件、小学校3〜6年生404件、中学校1〜3年生1008件、高等学校1〜2年生269件及び大学3〜4年生318件の計2209件であった。この実態調査の結果、小学校低学年児童から高校生までの間は、学年進行に伴ってエイズに関する基礎知識が増加したが、高校生と大学生ではその回答にほとんど差が認められなかった。一方、エイズ関連団体への寄付行為や介護ボランティア活動への参加といった社会的意識では、小学生から大学生に進むに従い意識の低下が観察された。次にエイズ問題を扱った映像資料の分析では、計31編の資料について、その内容ごとに整理・分析を試みた。その結果、事前事後調査における指導介入資料として、エイズの疾病像や地球規模での蔓延状況、またエイズ患者に対する社会的援助や活動の現状について編集されている資料3編を選んだ。事前事後調査は、先の実態調査における高校生と大学生の中間点として、大学1年生を調査対象として設定し、上記3編の映像資料を用いた介入指導を展開した。本介入指導の有効性の判定にあたっては、エイズ患者に対する社会的意識に重点をあてるとともに、エイズ患者に対するイメージや大学生がエイズについて知りたがっている内容を明らかにするための意識調査票を新たに作成し、判定資料とした。今回の映像資料による指導効果では、エイズという疾病やエイズ患者に対する社会的意識において、肯定的かつ受容的な意識変化が観察され、本介入指導の有効性が示されたものと理解された。
