Due to the recent interest on the method for the effective production of ultracold neutrons(UCN)which can be used for unique fundamental physics researches, a new approach is investigated in which the magnetic deceleration of very cold neutrons(VCR)is undertaken by using a strong magnetic field coupled with the adiabatic spin flip of neutrons. In the present research, a single unit of the magnetic decelerating device was prepared having the magnitude of the magnetic field near to 10 kG and a very small gradient of the field magnitude of about 10 G/cm which should be important for the realization of the adiabatic spin flip in the magnetic field. By using these properties and the parameter values attained in the present single test unit, some numerical analyses were carried out on the pos. sible. multistage decelerator -apparatus and the expected ultracold neutron trapping performances were studied. Further, concerning the incident VCN to be supplied to the decelbrator apparatus, the VCN facility of KUR reactor was also studied after the arrangement of the new liquid deuterium cold source, and the measured intensity of VCN was much intensified by the preparation of the present cold source. In this way, the present, studies indicated the possibility and the relating necessary' condition's for the UCN trapping in the proposed magnetic decelerator device.
