RECENTLY, THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW RECHARGEABLE CELL HAS BEEN INTERESTED IN THE LOAD LEVELING OF ELECTRIC POWER AND THE USE AS AN ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILE POWER. IN THE CURRENT INVESTIGATION, THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE RECHARGEABLE SODIUM/SULFUR(IV) MOLTEN SALT CELL HAS BEEN EAXAMINED BY THE ANALYSIS OF CHARGEDISCHARGE CURVE. THE MAIN POINT OF THIS CELL WAS PREVIOUSLY DEVELOPED BY G. MAMANTOV IN U.S.A.. AT FIRST, MOLTEN SALT CELLS WERE CONSTRUCTED USING STAINLESS STEELS. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE CELLS WERE VERY LOW BECAUSE OF THE LARGE INTERNAL RESISTANCE OF CELL. THEN, CELLS WERE MADE OF PYREX GLASSES CONTAINING beta- ALUMINA AND beta- ALUMINA SOLID ELECTROLYTE TUBES, RESPECTIVELY. THE PERFORMANCE OF beta- ALUMINA SOLID ELECTROLYTE CELL WAS BETTER THAN ONE OF beta- ALUMINA SOLID ELECTROLYTE CELL. THE CELL CHARACTERISTIC WAS CONSIDERED TO BE AFFECTED BY THE IONIC CONDUCTIVITY OF SOLID ELECTROLYTE. FUTHERMORE, THE CELL PERFORMANCE WAS CONFIRMED TO LOWER WITH THE OXIDATIONS OF ELEMNTARY SULFUR, METALLIC SODIUM AND MOLTEN SALT INSERTED INTO THE RECHARGEABLE CELL.
