项目摘要

本研究課題は代表者等のグループが、昭和50年度より継続して科研費を受け、研究を進めているものである。その目的は、「哺乳類の社会形態の進化の試論の構築」にある。本課題はその中で、哺乳類各種のもつ社会構造を比較するための共通の尺度として、生物経済学的手法の有効性を評価しようとするものである。社会進化の要因を探る試みが、特に類縁関係を中心に議論されているのに対し、本研究グループは、各種の生息環境との関係を重視している。そのため、この相互関係を定量化できる共通の尺度を見い出すことを2つのアプローチで試みている。ひとつは社会構造維持のためのコスト、言いかえれば生息地内の資源量とその利用率を測定し比較する方向であり、これは主として草食性の哺乳類で研究された。もうひとつは社会構造維持について、生息環境の異質性に注目し、種のもつ社会構造の変異の幅を測定する方向であり、これは主として肉食性哺乳類を対象に調査が行なわれた。草食性哺乳類では、長崎県五島列島、野崎島のニホンシカについて調査を行ない、これまでに、植生とシカによる利用様式の調査、ハビタットの歴史的変遷が明らかにされ、繁殖期・非繁殖期の社会構造が明らかにされつつある。イノシシについては、兵庫県六甲山系の餌付け個体群で社会構造の調査を行ない、行動圏が明らかにされた。さらに仔の分散過程の解析によって、その社会維持機構が議論されている。肉食性哺乳類については、第2のアプローチによって、ノネコでは社会構造の環境による異質性の幅がすでに明らかにされている。またチョウセンイタチについても、長崎県青島の、2つの環境下における社会構造と維持機構の資料収集を終了した。キツネ、ヤマネコ2種、ツシマテンにおいても3ケ年で資料の解析および収集は終了し、多大の成果をあげ、順次、論文としてまとめられる予定である。
