1.北海道内における主要近世絵画作品の所在・保存状況等の調査.北海道および道内各市町村が指定している有形文化財等について、公表されたデータを基礎とし、主要市町村についてはあらためて照会したうえで集計分析を行った。函館・松前・上ノ国・江差など道南地方の主要町村の有形文化財およびそれ以外の資料の保存状況については、現地調査によりこれまでに知られていない作品について一定の成果が得られた。とくに松町、上ノ国の両町では、古くから続く個人宅に江戸後期の屏風が所蔵されている例が意外に多く見られた。これらの多くは決して優れた出来のものとは言えないが、中には松前藩の御用船の船内にあったとされる杉戸絵など、歴史的に見て貴重な意味をもつ作品もあり、いっそうの調査の必要を痛感した。2.近世の北海道に滞在・来訪した画家の業績について.今回の調査では、蛎崎波響のいくつかの作品をのぞき、特に重要と思われる画家の作品は見出せなかった。3.近世北海道における絵画制作とその継承の実態について.今回は研究期間が実質的にきわめて短かく、調査地もごく一部に限られたため、十分な資料は得られていない。だが、前記1.のような成果から考えて、道南地方を中心とする旧家にはまだ多くの資料が所蔵されている可能性が大きく、継続的に調査すれば、絵画制作の実態の解明は困難としても、少なくとも近世北海道における絵画の受容と継承についての一定の成果は得られるものと考える。すでに本課題による来年度以降の研究費補助を申請中であるので、ぜひ調査研究を続行したい。
