パーマネントに関する成果:行の個数が列の個数以下で,列和が一定の行確率行列のパーマネントに対しても,エゴリチェフ-ファリクマンの不等式が成立することを示した.更に,等号が成立するのは,各行が全て同一のベクトルのとき,正方行列の場合と同じく,全ての成分が同一の場合に限るという結果を得た.行ベクトルが相異なるときの考察は今後の課題である.二項定理と包除原理に関する成果:アーベルによる二項定理の一般化に対する直接的な証明を考えた.この証明は第2種のスターリング数の表現とも関連していて,組合せ論的立場から興味深いものと思われる.なお,レニによる確率的解釈に対する解析的な証明も考えた.また,包除原理の条件付確率版を考察し,それに基づいて,多次元区間の確率を分布関数で表現する公式に対して,簡明な証明を考えた.負の二項分布に関する成果:天然記念物カササギの佐賀平野における生息分布調査データに対する統計的解析を行った.その結果,生息数の分布が負の二項分布で良く説明できることを示した.近似理論に関する成果:当研究の研究課題からは少しはずれるが,研究分担者の北原和明氏との共同研究成果である.実数直線上の有界閉区間から順序付回帰的バナッハ空間への関数のうち,有界変動なものの全体からなる関数空間を考え,この空間に関数の全変動を用いたノルムを導入する.そしてこの空間において,単調増加な関数全体や凸関数全体を近似関数の空間としたときに,最良近似解の存在と一意性について考察し,基本的な結果を得た.
