Research trips to the southwestern islands (the Tokara Islands, Okinawa Island and the Yaeyama Islands) were conducted, and a good collection of the spiders was made.Specimens of the spiders of the family Clubionidae deposited in the National Science Museum were taxonomically and morphologically studied. The specimens were collected not only from Hokkaido, Tohoku and Hokuriku Districts in Japan but from Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan and Madagascar by the scientific researches supported by the Grants-in-aid for Field Research of the Monbusho International Scientific Research Program. There new species, Clubiona ikedai, C.kumadaorum and C.mayamiae, were described and another three species, Clubiona kasanensis, C.trivialis and C.mandschurica, were newly recorded from Japan [references2), 3), 5) and6)].Clubionid spiders from Taiwan were intensively studied. They were identified into 14 species including 4 new ones. Of these, 7 species were recorded also from Japan ; particularly, a close relationship between the fauna of Taiwan and that of the Yaeyama Islands was recognized in dominance of the species-group of Clubiona corticalis.Japanese spiders of the genus Clubiona were classified into about 60 species of 15 species-groups. On the basis of the phylogeny and observations of the speciation of these spiders it can be safely said that the fauna of Japan in the clubionid spiders is rich and made by many different factors. However, the fauna is closely related to that of the Eurasian continant, especially of Siberia, China and Korea.
