瀬戸内海において1‐3時間間隔で25‐72時間にわたって採集された海産枝角類の育房内の胚発生段階を調べ、Penilia avirostris(ウスカワミジンコ)では仔虫放出の日周性はないが、Evadne nordmanni(ノルドマンエボシミジンコ)及びEvadne tergestina(トゲナシエボシミジンコ)では夜間暗黒時にのみ産仔行動が起ることを再確認した。Evandne属は極めて大きい黒色の眼をもつので、仔虫放出直前のメス個体は育房中に多数の黒点をもち非常に目立ちやすいため、この時期を暗黒時にのみ経過することは視覚による捕食者を回避するための適応的戦略とみなされる。また、購入した赤外線カメラ撮影装置を装置した高画質顕微鏡ビデオ装置により、育房中の胚発生の経過と夜間暗黒時におけるEvandne tergestinaの産仔行動を撮影することに初めて成功した。特に、産仔は母虫の速やかな脱皮とともに起り、放出された仔虫は直ちに泳ぎ去る過程が明らかになった。この研究成果については「第3回国際枝角類シンポジウム」(ノルウエー・ベルゲン、1993年8月)において講演する予定である(Onbe,T.:Nocturnal release of neonates of the marine cladocerans of the genus Evandne,with observations by infraredlight video microscopy)。また4種の海産枝角類Penilia avirostris,Podon leuckarti(オオウミオオメミジンコ),Evandne nordmanni及びEvandne tergestinaの消化管内容物中の植物プランクトン色素(クロロフィル及びフェオ色素)を指標として、摂食活動の日周性を調べた。その結果前2者については色素量は昼間より夜間において有意に高く、顕著な日周性を示すことが明らかとなった。しかし、Evandne属2種については、摂食活動の日周性は認められなかった。この内容は現在日本プランクトン学会報に投稿中である。(Uye,S.&T.Onbe:Diel feeding variations of the marine cladocerans in the Inland Sea of Japan.Bull.Plankton Soc.Japan)。
