〔研究目的〕体罰やいじめなど子どもの権利が抑圧されている現在の状況のもとで、子どもの人権意識の基底をなす要因を把握し、人権意識の形成にかかわる教育上の課題を明らかにすることを目的とした。〔研究方法〕人権意識に関する「体罰・いじめ」「障害・高齢(者)」「女性」の問題に対する意識や態度を調査するとともに、これらの問題に関連する「子どもの生活実態」についても調査し意識間の関連を検討した。調査は、1994年11月から1995年1月かけて実施し、質問紙を小学5年生とその保護者、中学2年生とその保護者、高校2年生、大学生、教員を対象として配付した。配付数と回収率はそれぞれ、1103部、67.1%、1047部、66.2%、1164部、72.1%、1163部、65.7%,2461部、95.1%、881部、92.6%、620部、53.7%であった。〔結果〕体罰体験は、教師からのものが小学・中学生で約35%、高校生は約半数であり、いじめは中学生から大学生まで約半数が体験していた。保護者の約9割が体罰を認め、子どもをたたく数は半数を超えていた。多数のための少数の犠牲を是とするのは、中学・高校生では半数を超えていた。女らしく、と言われているのは女子に多い。夫の主人という呼称を不平等と思わない人は保護者の8割を超える。意識相互の関連を見ると、中・高・大学では領域相互間、特に高校において強い関連が見られた。小学生では、家族との関係のあり方と自己肯定感、自己肯定感と困っている人への手助けとの間に関連が見られた。教師による体罰体験の有無と学校の楽しさ(小)、いじめ体験の有無(中・高・大)との間、保護者の体罰体験と子どもをたたくこととの間にも関連が見られた。子どもの人権意識の基底をなす要因として自己肯定感が大きな位置を占めていると考えられる。したがって暴力の介在しない、子どもを受容する教育環境が必要であろう。
