複数の小規模展示施設群による「小さな博物館」活動の一つの典型事例である墨田区の調査結果より、この活動を可能とした条件と、その提供するコミュニティ形成の意義を以下の8点にまとめる。(1)各地の「小さな博物館」活動は、地域密着の小規模施設群による、運営は住民の手による、集積した「小さな博物館」群の巡回を期待していること、が共通項となっている。(2)東京都墨田区の「小さな博物館」活動は、「モノづくりのまち」墨田の産業振興政策の一環として位置づけられて展開された点が、その活発な活動の保障となっている。(3)墨田区の行政誘導は、A)事前の各種調査を下敷きとしてた具体的イメージ作りによって住民の参加を容易にした、B)多様な宣伝普及活動によって住民のなかに「小さな博物館」の認識を確立した、など活動の立ち上げにおいて有効に発揮された。(4)産業振興政策の一環として、開館時、日常運営、更新時の3段階での補助金制度でより多くの参加を可能にしている。(5)また「小さな博物館」の立地する地域、同業者組合の直接間接の支援システムも加わって多様なパートナーシップがより一層の参加条件となっていた。(6)「小さな博物館」での地域に密着した資料の展示以上に施設を取り囲む周辺のまちなみもまた「景観・町の雰囲気」といった重要なコミュニティ学習の資料を提供している。(7)また展示物同様に館長の解説は、地域の歴史・産業・文化を知る重要な場を提供している。(8)現在墨田区では、館長の活動は「小さな博物館」の運営だけに限定されているが、「小さな博物館」の位置を考えると、地域のコミュニティ形成の核となる可能性がある。

A typical example of a small museum activity involving a number of small-scale exhibition facilities is the investigation results of the Sumida area, the possible conditions for the activity, and the significance of the formation of the museum. (4)The subsidy system consists of three stages: the first stage of the industrial revitalization policy, the opening stage, the daily operation stage and the renewal stage.
