視機能の低下した高齢者の目に見えている居住環境色彩を解析するとともに,視覚情報としての色彩や質感について高齢者の視点から追求することを目的とした.実験・調査は広島県下の特別養護老人ホーム(平成6年開所,定員93名,そのうちケアハウス15名)で,施設開所時から本研究テーマに継続的な協力を得ている.被験者は日常生活動作のすべてに介助を要さず,自分で日常生活ができるケアハウス入居の女性7名(平均年令:81歳)とした.ホームの居住環境色彩の計測は高齢者の模擬水晶体フィルターとしてCOLORED OPTICAL GLASS(HOYA:Y44,Y46,Y48,Y50,Y52,054)を装着した色彩輝度計により行った.JIS安全色彩8色については標準光源装置下で同様に測定した.携帯用の光沢計および色差計を用いた居住環境の光沢度ならびに生活色彩の測定もあわせて行った.また同一色相につき8種のテクスチャーを有する壁材(黄系:pale greenish yellow,緑系:pale green,青系:pale greenish blue)を用いて色彩と質感の調査については,被験者一人ごとに聞き取り調査を行った.視界が黄変化した高齢者にとっては,色彩は黄系,低明度,高彩度化し,光沢感との関連が問題となる.実生活における居住環境色彩は黄赤〜黄系,中〜高明度,低彩度に多くあり,高齢者の視覚情報としては色すの濃淡への依存が高くなるものと考える.安全色彩のうち橙と赤紫・緑と青は黄変化視界で色度変化が近似の傾向を示す、居住環境の光沢度は全般に低く,タイルやステンレス仕様の高光沢の箇所との差が大きい、壁材の質感は近距離(1.5m以内)で粗い縞や格子などが明瞭に認識されたのみで,その他の繊細なテクスチャーは高齢者にとって判別しにくい.高齢者の生活行動を助け,快適な日常生活を実現するために,色彩と材質感の知覚的伝達力の有効利用の可能性を示唆した.
