本研究の目的は、(1)算数・数学の問題解決における帰納的な考え方の下位過程のモデルを明らかにし、(2)児童・生徒が、帰納的な考え方を用いて問題を解決するときの各下位過程の反応を調査し、(3)その調査結果を分析・検討することによって、児童・生徒の帰納的な考え方の様相をその下位過程という視点から明らかにすることによって、帰納的な考え方の発達や指導に対する示唆を得ることにあった。目的(1)に対しては、国内外の算数・数学科教科書や問題解決関係図書をもとに、帰納的な考え方を用いて解決するのに適した算数・数学の問題を分析した結果、算数・数学の問題解決における帰納的な考え方の下位過程を次のように規定した。演繹的な考え方などでは問題解決できないときに、(1)いくつかのデータを集め、(2)それらの間に共通するパターンを見つけ、(3)そのパターンが、もとのデータを含む集合でも成り立つと推測し(推測したことが真であることを新しいデータで確かめたり、演繹的に説明することが望ましい)、(4)そのパターンを利用して問題を解決する。目的(2)と(3)に対しては、個人面接法による調査のため被験者が少ないので、明確な結果とはいえないが、上記4つの下位過程のうち、第1のデータを集める過程でつまずいている被験者が多いことが分かった。具体的には、自主的にデータを集めようという態度が身に付いていない被験者が多く、また、どういうデータを集めたらよいかの判断が難しいようである。このデータを集める過程については、先行研究も不十分であり、今後、これについてさらに研究を進める予定である。
