本研究では、コンソ遺跡群出土の初期人類をも含む哺乳動物化石に関する形態ならびに同位体分析を進め、東アフリカの170万年前ごろに起こったとされる気候の乾燥化に対応した進化様式のあり方を検証した。結果、主要分類群であるウシ科においては、磨耗に対する適応進化とニッチェ分化が見られた。ボイセイ猿人においても臼歯構造ならびにエナメル質総量において特殊化が見られ、より特異的な食性環境への移行が示唆された。

This study provides evidence for morphological and isotopic analysis of early hominid and mammalian fossils unearthed from the fossil population 1.7 million years ago. The results showed that the main taxa were different from those of the other taxa. The characteristics of the ape-man's food structure and the characteristics of the animal's food environment are discussed.
