The Changing Intermediary Role of Slaves, Immigrants and Mixed Blooded People between Local and Foreign Communities at Port Cities during the 19^<th> and 20^<th> Centuries

对奴隶、移民和混血人作为外国游客与当地社会之间的中介所发挥的作用的研究，为我们理解港口城市的社会融合提供了新的视角。通过对地中海、伊斯兰、欧美等世界奴隶与南亚、东南亚、东亚奴隶的比较研究，可以发现奴隶在社会地位和“奴隶”概念上的异同。移民不仅在扩大其家园与移徙目的地点之间的联系网络方面，而且在其所接纳的社会内部的社会合作方面，都发挥着重要作用。与外国人和移民同居的当地妇女的作用已通过涵盖东亚、东南亚、南亚和西亚的广泛个案研究得到澄清。在现代世界中，外国人和当地人之间的这种调解人的作用需要进一步审查。

The study of the role played by slaves, immigrants and people of mixed blood as intermediaries between foreign visitors and local society has shed new light on our understanding of social integration of ports cities. Through the comparative study between slaves in the Mediterranean, Islamic, European and American worlds and those of South, Southeast and East Asia, both similarities and differences in social status and the very concept of "slave" have come to light. The importance of role of immigrants not only in enlarging networks linking their homes with migration destination points, but also in social cooperation within their adopted societies has been examined. The role of local women who cohabited with foreigners and migrants has been clarified through a wide range of case studies covering East, Southeast, South and West Asia. The role of such mediators between foreigners and local people in the modern world needs to be further examined.
