项目摘要

今年度は新型コロナの影響もあり絵画資料の実見調査に制限を受けたため、オンラインでのデータ調査及び文献調査を中心に活動を行った。調査で着目した点は手形の「色」と「構図」である。現在の手形は朱墨であることが多く、黒星を連想させる墨はあまり好まれないとされるが、現存する力士の手形を調査したところ、明和期（1764-1772）から天明期（1781-1789）にかけて押された手形には”黒”と”赤”が混在しており、時代が下るに従い赤が優勢となっていくことが明らかとなった。「構図」については、力士が手形を押す風習を描いた作例と、実物大と思しき手形に力士の肖像を組み合わせた作例に分け整理をした。その際、加藤清正像（清正公）にも後者に類似した体裁の手形が押された肖像の作例があり、合わせて調査を進めたところ力士の手形と同様に疫病を退けると信じられたものであることが分かった。制作意図や享受者に関し力士の手形とどのような共通点と差異があるのかについて引き続き調査を行う方針である。その他、富山市郷土博物館及び売薬資料館で薬絵の調査を行った。薬絵は販促品として配布された浮世絵であるが、調査を進めたところ病の平癒を祈るよりも商売繁昌といった実利的な願いが反映された画題が多いことが確認された。これは民家や土蔵などの壁に漆喰で施す鏝絵の画題と極めて近い傾向を示しており、薬絵が日常を通じ家屋等に飾る用途であったため、実益を伴うものがより好まれたことが考察された。
