本研究では、イスラーム神秘主義（スーフィズム）の「ベクタシ教団」のバルカン半島地域での活動を通して、今日のヨーロッパにおけるイスラーム思想とその実践がどのように構築されているのかを探求することを目的としている。イスラーム思想が反映された音楽でありを分析ツールとして用い、音楽実践からイスラーム思想のみならずそれを内包する教団と信仰を受容する民衆の様態を読み取るとることを目指す。ここではイスラーム思想と民衆文化が相互に影響して形成されたベクタシ教団の音楽に着目し、A）教団形成の歴史的過程、B）音楽文化の異種混交化、C）音楽を通じた大衆化・信仰深化という項目を通してベクタシ教団の宗教的音楽実践を調査し、民衆の動態とともに展開するイスラームの形態を新たに示す。令和4年度は、ベクタシ教団を調査対象とする実地調査を2022年8月（3週間）および2023年3月（2週間）に実施した。具体的にはティラナ市（アルバニア）に位置するベクタシ教団本部を訪問し、博物館に保存されている楽譜・音源を含む資料調査とそれらを管理する学芸員および修行僧への聞き取りを行った。また、8月19日には現在のベクタシ教団の長であるエドモンド・デデババに面会する機会を得、インタビューを行った。また、ティラナではベクタシ儀礼歌を歌う音楽家であり音楽学者でもあるエンリス・クィナミ氏からも情報提供と調査協力を得た。上記のアルバニア・ティラナに加え地域的な比較検討のため北マケドニアのテトヴォにあるベクタシ教団のテッケ（修道場）などを訪問したほか、スーフィー教団の活動の比較検討を目的として、トルコのジェラッヒー教団、コソボのハルヴェッティ教団とルファーイー教団での観察調査も行っている。
