本研究は、選挙による政権交代と次回選挙の質の間のメカニズム解明を目的とし、なぜ選挙による政権交代が次回選挙の質を低下させるかを明らかにする。本研究は、比較政治学の中でも主要な位置を占める民主化・民主主義研究の根幹を成す民主主義の捉え方に疑問を投げかけ、政権交代の効果についての先行研究に対して挑戦するものとなる。2022年度は、前年度に実施した長階差を使用した再分析の結果を確認することから研究を始めた。本分析は、コーディング上のバイアスを避けることを目的としている。また、最終年度となる2023年に西アフリカとフランスでフィールドワークを実施するための準備として、8月にセネガル・フランス等を訪問した。これらの訪問により、最終年度にフィールドワークを実施する準備を整えることができた。
