越境的な国際移動が世界的に拡大するなかで、欧米を中心とする移民受入国では、「違法性」や「犯罪性」に結びつけられた移民を国外へと排除し、特定の条件を満たす「望ましい移民」を社会へと包摂する選別的移民政策が進行してきた。特にアメリカ合衆国（以下、米国）では、革新を期待されたオバマ政権の下で、皮肉にも年間40万人にも及ぶ大規模な強制送還政策が拡大する一方で、幼少期に移住し滞在許可を持たないまま米国で社会化されてきた移民1.5世代を対象とする「DACAプログラム（若年移民に対する強制送還延期措置）」（以下、DACA）が実施され、約80万人におよぶ非正規移民の若者が、一時的に強制送還の対象から外れ、2年毎の就労許可を獲得してきた。本研究の目的は、2012年より米国で実施されている、特定の非正規移民の若者に対して暫定的な権利を付与するDACAが、若者たちにどのような影響を及ぼしているのか、彼ら・彼女らの社会移動の経験に着目し検討することである。新型コロナ感染症拡大のため、米国での現地調査ができなかった期間は、（A）DACAをめぐる政策的変化と現状分析、（B）アジア系移民と非正規性をめぐる経験に着目した資料調査を中心に研究を進めた。その後、2022年8月に米国への渡航が可能となったことから、米国カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス近郊を中心にフィールド調査を行った。ロサンゼルスを中心に活動する複数の支援団体とつながることで、DACA受益者だけでなく、様々な事情でDACAの対象から漏れた若者たちにもアプローチすることが可能となった。また従来の先行研究が、主にラティーノ系移民に偏重してきたことをふまえ、2022年8月のフィールド調査ではアジア・パシフィック系移民に重点的に聞き取りを実施した。
