視覚と聴覚の双方に障害がある学校段階の子どもは「盲ろう児」と呼ばれている。彼らは、自然にコミュニケーションを習得することは難しく、残存視力および聴力に応じた専門性の高い指導が不可欠である。一方、盲ろう児を担当する教員は、コミュニケーションの指導について様々な難しさを感じている（国立特別支援教育総合研究所, 2018）。そのため、盲ろう児を担当する教員のコミュニケーションの指導を支援するための情報提供や研修等の充実が一層必要とされる。研究代表者は、盲ろう児の指導にあたる教員らに研修やセミナー等を通して情報提供を行う機会があることから、本研究の成果が今後の研修等の充実もにつながると考える。本研究では、国外で浸透してきたコミュニケーション指導アプローチChild-Guided Strategiesに焦点を当てている。本アプローチは、いくつかの欧米の学校において浸透しており、わが国の盲ろう児へのコミュニケーション指導における示唆を得られる可能性がある。そこで研究では、本アプローチについて文献調査、及びインタビューによる情報収集を行うこと、そして国内の特別支援学校における盲ろう児指導の実際について、学校訪問や教員へのインタビュー調査を行うことにより、盲ろう児のコミュニケーション指導に必要とされる考え方を整理することを目的とした。今年度は、Child-Guided Strategiesを用いて、本アプローチの発案者とともに実践してきた者への実際の様子等に関するインタビュー調査や本アプローチの研修に関する情報収集を行った。併せて、国内でのコミュニケーション指導を行う教員の授業参観、情報収集、及びインタビュー調査、盲ろう児の保護者からの情報収集等を行い、盲ろう児の担当教員が、コミュニケーションの指導についてどのような難しさを感じ、どのように克服しているのかを検討した。
