入院患者を対象とした介入研究を想定していたが、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響を受け、施設への出入りが困難な状況となった。近年、衛生面の観点からディスポーザブルタオルが着目されており、保湿成分が含まれることから、皮膚状態を維持する可能性が示唆されている。その一方で対象者には寒さや不快感を与えてしまう可能性が指摘されている。浮腫を抱える患者のように皮膚が脆弱な対象者には前述したようなタオルでの清拭がのぞましい可能性はあるが、対象者の受け止めも患者中心の医療を提供する上では検討する必要がある。2022年度は基礎研究として、保湿成分が含まれ、従来のものよりも厚手のディスポーザブルタオルを用いた清拭の効果を検討することを、健康成人を対象として実施した。健康女性を対象に、3種類のタオル素材（厚手のディスポーザブルタオル、薄手ディスポーザブルタオル、綿タオル）の清拭を実施し、皮膚への影響として皮膚表面温度、角質水分量、経表皮水分蒸散量（TEWL）を測定し、心理的影響として質問紙にて主観的評価を測定した。その結果、厚手のディスポーザブルタオルにおいても一時的に気化熱により皮膚温の低下が生じるものの、対象者の主観的評価は綿タオルと差がないことが明らかとなった。また、皮膚バリア機能については、厚手のディスポーザブルタオルに含まれる保湿成分の影響により、皮膚の水分量が上昇する可能性が示唆された。また、対象者にとって清拭の意味を既存のデータを質的・量的に分析し、今後、皮膚バリア機能に加え、対象者への心理的効果として今後測定すべき尺度について検討した。
