In order to consider the period and the context in which the imagery of vajra-warriors and guardian kings were clearly differentiated from those of other dharma-protecting deities in Chinese Buddhism, the researcher collected and organized relevant images and references(including historical manuscripts), with the aim of preparing foundation for further study. Upon surveying mainly the artworks remaining in Shanxi, Henan, and Shandong provinces formerly ruled by Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties, the researcher was able to distinguish the works significant for further study. Additionally, the researcher collected and validated relevant references on the eminent monks shown in records as having created images of dharma-protecting deities.

为了考虑金刚武士和守护王形象与中国佛教其他护法神灵形象明显区别的时代和背景，研究者收集和整理了相关形象和参考文献(包括历史手稿)，为进一步研究奠定基础。研究人员主要考察了东魏北齐时期山西、河南、山东三省的艺术品，从中辨别出有进一步研究意义的作品。此外，研究人员还收集并验证了记录中显示的创造了护法神像的知名僧侣的相关参考资料。
