中国において標準語・標準音の制定が本格的に始まったのは、1913年に行われた読音統一会であった。本研究は、中華民国初期における標準音の成立過程を明らかにするために、以下の二点を目的として研究活動をおこなっている。第一に、近代中国における国語形成の過程において、読音統一会がどのような政治的・社会的・思想的背景の下で展開され、どのような歴史的役割を担ったのかを実証的に解明することである。第二に、読音統一会が清朝末期の国語計画やその後の中華民国期の国語運動・施策とどのような関係にあったのかを分析し、近代中国の国語形成の構造について詳細に解明することである。2022年度8月末時点（2022年9月～2023年4月末、研究中断）で、研究計画書に沿って、以下の研究をおこなった。第一の目的に関しては、上海図書館や北京国家図書館など国外での資料調査を実施する予定であったが、新型コロナウイルス拡大の影響で渡航が難しく、実施には至らなかった。その代わりに、既に入手済みの関連資料を駆使し、読音統一会の歴史的背景と人的ネットワークについて分析をおこなった。第二の目的に関しては、これまでの研究成果を踏まえたうえで、清朝末期の国語運動の立役者である労乃宣の活動を事例に、清朝末期の国語運動と立憲運動とのかかわりについて論文の執筆をおこなった。それにより、清朝末期の国語運動と立憲運動の関わりは概ね解明され、清朝末期の国語計画の実態も浮き彫りになっている。だが、第一子の妊娠・出産により、2022年9月より研究を中断せざるをえなかった。今後は、日本国内のほか、国外（北京・上海・台北）で調査する予定である。
