道徳性はヒトが社会の中で適応的に生存するための重要な基盤となる。道徳性の萌芽は乳幼児期という個体発生の初期から観察されるが (Hamlin et al., 2007)，その性質は発達とともに変容していく (Warneken & Tomasello, 2009)。しかし，より複雑で洗練された道徳観がいつどのように備わっていくかは不明な点が多い。そこで，本研究では乳幼児期における道徳性の変容過程の解明を目指す。道徳性の変容とはすなわち，その個体が属する社会の価値観に適応していく過程であり，それを検討することでヒトの乳幼児がどのような道徳性発達を経て，社会に適応していくのかを明らかにできる。ヒトの乳幼児が複雑で洗練された道徳観を備えていく過程を理解するために，本研究では道徳性の適正性，相対性，多様性を理解し始める時期を解明することを目的としている。令和4年度は12ヶ月児を対象に集団によって異なる規範や価値観が存在することを理解し始める時期を検討した。具体的には，先行研究の手続き (Powell & Spelke, 2013) を参考に，12ヶ月児に対してグループのメンバーの運動と一致した運動を行ったメンバーと一致しない運動を行ったメンバーがグループのメンバーに罰せられる状況を呈示した。12ヶ月児が社会規範を理解しているのであれば，一致しない運動を行ったメンバーがグループのメンバーよりもグループのメンバーの運動と一致した運動を行ったメンバーが罰せられる状況に対する注視時間のほうが長くなると予測した。しかし，それらの状況に対する注視時間に違いは見られず，前言語期の乳児が集団によって異なる規範や価値観が存在することを理解していることを示す十分な証拠は得られなかった。
