During the first fiscal year of research implementation, production and isolation have been optimized to yield high number of exosomes. This part is important for the incorporation of "nanosome" as the number of "exosome-nanosome" platform to be produced is dependent on the produced exosomes. The amount of exosome produced between fed and starved cells were also determined to be different. Some exosome proteins are downregulated in the starved state. These are significantly important as the "exosome-nanosome" incorporation on different cells/organs can also be impacted significantly. The construction of the platform showed limitations on the incorporation of the "nanosome" and optimization (sizes, ligand composition, and the overall charge) seemed to be necessary.
