当初の予定ではインターネットを用いて薬剤抵抗性の過敏性腸症候群（IBS）に対する内部感覚曝露を伴う認知行動療法（CBT-IE）を実施する治療者を養成するための教育プログラムを作成し、学習と治療実践の2段階の治療者教育を計画していた。具体的には、e-ラーニングサイトにアップロードした動画やテキストを用いて参加者①（治療者候補）がIBSに対するCBT-IEを学び、知識などの点で治療者要件を満たした場合に、参加者②（薬剤抵抗性IBS患者）に対してCBT-IEを実施する予定であった。しかし、参加者①のリクルートに先立ち、プログラムを閲覧してもらった心理士および精神科医、看護師らの意見より、研究計画の一部見直しを行うこととなった。指摘内容は次の通りである。まず、参加者①に対し、知識の教育はできても１クールのCBT実践では治療者としての実戦経験としては少ないため、治療実践における結果は教育プログラムの出来ではなく患者に左右されることが指摘された。しかし、一人当たりの患者数を増やすと、参加者②の募集およびスーパーバイズにおいて実施可能性が低くなる。一方で、動画及びテキストは、患者への治療プログラムとして使用できることも指摘された。これらの点からe-ラーニングで学べる患者治療プログラムを作成し、臨床現場でIBSを診察している医師がe-ラーニングサイトを患者に紹介して使ってもらえる形の方が、費用対効果も含めIBSに対するCBT-IEの普及という目的には合致していると考えられた。このため、eラーニングプログラムをIBS患者に対するCBT-IEのeラーニングプログラムに修正。参加者②に対する治療をパイロット試験として実施することとした。なお、プログラムの閲覧を希望する治療者にはプログラムの有効性と安全性が報告されれば閲覧可能とすることで治療者教育についても補完することとする。
