Establishment of protocol of visual acuity assessment with visual evoked potentials in dog, and clinical application

It became clear that pattern-reversal visual evoked potentials (PVEP) recording had potential to assess degree of dog’s vision and/or visual acuity. Retinoscopy, a technique to evaluate refractive power of eye, was integral for detailed PVEP recording method, however, retinoscopy difficult to perform when the subject’s eye had opacity in ocular media. PVEP was recorded based on these things, recording under the general anesthesia or sedation, and calculate visual acuity in healthy Beagles. It was showed that healthy Beagles have 14.29 cycles per degree or more visual acuity.
