Under the conditions of mega-competition caused by globalization of the world economy, together with the current economic depression in Japan, many companies are reducing their scale of activities or withdrawing completely from local towns and villages. As such, employment opportunities are decreasing in such places.This study focuses on rural industries and the local economy in the Tohoku area in the 1990's.This study sheds light on the future conditions of rural industries. The regions investigated are Gosyogawara City (Aomori Prefecture), Kitagami City (Iwate Prefecture), Kamaishi City (Iwate Prefecture) and Kanayama town (Yamagata Prefecture).

在世界经济全球化导致的超级竞争条件下，加上日本目前的经济不景气，许多公司正在缩减活动规模或完全退出当地的城镇和村庄。因此，这些地方的就业机会正在减少。本研究以东北地区20世纪90年代的乡村工业和地方经济为研究对象，对乡村工业的未来状况进行了展望。被调查的地区是小尾川市(青森县)、北上市(岩手县)、龟石市(岩手县)和金山镇(山形县)。
