项目摘要

われわれは、これまでの研究で注意の方略の文化的差異を計測する課題、「Framed Line Test (FLT)」を開発してきた。この課題で被験者はまず、四角の中に引かれた線を見せられ、ついで別の大きさの四角に四角との比率か線の絶対的長さで「同じ」線を引くよう求められる。注意の焦点化方略は、絶対課題の成績を高め相対課題の成績を低めると予測できる。逆に注意の分散化方略は、相対課題の成績を高め絶対課題の成績を低めると予測できる。これまでの研究で、アメリカ人は概して焦点化方略をとりがちだが日本人は分散化方略をとり立ちであることを示してきたが、今年度は、これらに加え、同様の文化差がマッチング課題でもみられること、別の注意課題(音声ストループ課題)の成績と相関すること、そして、少なくとも日本においては年齢や地域にかかわらず安定してみられることを示した。さらに、われわれは同様の注意報略の文化差が外的対象に向けられた注意現象だけでなく、心的対象に向けられた注意現象にもみられるかを探索し、これを確認する結果を得てきている。具体的には、線分や円の大きさの推定課題において、アメリカ人に比べて日本人、韓国人、中国人は、同じ集合に属する他の刺激の大きさ(ベースレート)に判断が引き寄せられがちであることを示した。さらに、この効果は、当該の集合の分散が小さく近くされるとより顕著になることも併せて示した。これらの知見は、従来示されていた文化間の認知的相違がいわゆる社会的領域ばかりでなく、図形や線分といった非常に基礎的な刺激の処理においても顕著にみられることを示唆している。
