High-resolution proteomic analysis of native sodium-phosphate transporters SLC34A1 and SLC34A3 and their role in kidney disease (P09)

P9 will study the role of native transporters NaPi-IIa (SLC34A1) and NaPi-IIc (SLC34A3) by analyzing their subunit composition, operation and cell physiology in the mammalian kidney. Rare mutations in the genes encoding these proteins cause disorders of phosphate metabolism and kidney stone disease, and GWAS showed that SLC34A1 is associated with alterations in serum phosphate levels and the filtration process in kidney. P9 will use a multidisciplinary, interactive approach comprising quantitative mass spectrometry and previously developed biochemical and proteomic techniques including complexome profiling, together with functional analyses as well as fluorescence and electron microscopy to elucidate the regulation, function and interaction partners of these kidney disease targets.
