Due to the high demands on turbomachinery in terms of service life, maintainability and efficiency, research into the aerodynamic and aeroelastic properties of the components is a crucial element in ensuring that the stated objectives are met. Both the flow structures occurring in turbomachinery and the aeroelastic interactions show high sensitivities with regard to geometry of the flow-carrying components. In order to ensure high quality research results, both the possibility of manufacturing and the knowledge of the highly demanding geometry of the most diverse components are therefore of great importance. In order to achieve the necessary quality in production, machines are required which can maintain the smallest tolerances. In research applications, these are at least one order of magnitude smaller compared to industrial production and therefore usually cannot be obtained from industrial suppliers within an economic time and cost framework. The machine for high-precision 5-axis simultaneous machining applied for here enables the production of highly demanding free forms, which are the basis of turbomachinery blades. In addition, the ability to check the tolerances using the latest optical measuring technology guarantees the quality of the components and enablesa precise feedback into numerical simulations. This enables the validation of attached numerical models with a continuous methodology and promotes their further development.
